Sweet Little Mermaid

Good evening all and hope that your week is going well?  Thank you for all your comments and also for your good wishes for my husband's 60th birthday! We had a great 'non-party party' on Sunday with about 20 family and friends here, which was a lovely way to mark this landmark - and his actual birthday is today! But as we were at work :(  we'd decided to celebrate on Sunday. And in another week or so we'll be going away for a long weekend with all our offspring (and partners!) for a stay in a lovely Lake District hotel together which I'm really looking forward to!

And I'll be glad to get back on to my normal hours at work - busy periods at work definitely cut down my crafting time at home which is not good news!
But just thought I'd share a little card I made with you - another one of my attempts at a girly card without using flowers lol!

I've used one of the gorgeous mermaid stamps from LOTV. I've coloured her with promarkers and added some Stickles and some Glossy Accents to the shells

I must improve my camera skills! The colours definitely look a bit more vivid on the real card - they look at bit wishy-washy on this picture!
The backing papers are from NitWit pads at LOTV. I've added a Marianne die cut heart (with some pearls from stash) and die cut swirls.  The cute wooden seahorse is from CraftyEmblies, and the little shell embellishments are from my stash.
I think I've managed to achieve 'cute and girly' without flowers!

Soft Green or Teal?

Good morning! I'm doing this as a scheduled post as I've a feeling that Sunday is going to be a busy day! Again!  We're having some family and friends round to help my husband celebrate his 'big birthday' which is on Tuesday. He said he didn't want a party but we explained that people would still want to pop in, so we're now having what we're all calling a 'Non-Party Party'!  So it's an afternoon tea with bottles of bubbly stuff and lots of cakes and nibbles! So on Sunday morning I'll be doing my Sergeant-Major impersonation, shouting instructions to everyone (who'll mostly ignore me anyway) in an effort to get the house into some semblance of order before people arrive! Me? Bossy? Perish the thought!  It might be a big birthday for him to come to terms with, but I'm still getting my head around the fact that I'll be married to a 60 year old! I'm only 24 (inside, lol!). Sigh.

Anyway, thought I'd share a card with you that I made with a cute Saturated Canary digi - Nevaeh.  I'm never quite sure whether I'd call this colour 'soft green' or 'teal' - what do you think?

I've coloured her with promarkers and made it into a 6" square gatefold card

I was quite pleased with the dress, but still not convinced about my 'blonde' hair colouring. I struggle most with blonde and grey hair!
The backing papers are from First Edition. And decided to challenge myself to make a girly card without using flowers or too many embellies!
So hope you like it!
I'll let you know how birthday boy enjoys his 'non-party party' lol!

Cute as a Button!

Good morning and I hope that all in Blogland are well? How did it get to Friday so quickly?? Some times I just seem to turn around on a Monday and it's already Friday!  And got a busy weekend coming up - having a little friends & family afternoon tea on Sunday for my husband's birthday (which is next Tuesday!).  And between now and then I've also got to make his birthday card!!! Yes, confession time! How many cards do I make? And I've not made his card yet? Shame on me! I'll go and stand in the naughty corner now.

Anyway, less of my moaning! As it's Friday it's time for a new challenge over at CraftyCatz! There were some fabulous entries for the 'anything but a card' challenge last week.  This week our lovely Dianne has challenged us to make it 'Cute as a Button' - so we want to see cute images and buttons!
Our sponsors this week are
    and

I've used this cute Paper Shelter image

I've coloured the image with promarkers

The backing green coredinations card was embossed with a Die'sire embossalicious 6" square folder 'floral frenzy'. The other dp is First Edition. I've then added some Tonic punched flowers and buttons from stash. The sentiment is from LOTV.
Hope you like it! So do pop over to CraftyCatz and see the fantastic DT samples - and then join in!

Tulips for you!

Hi everyone and hope that you're keeping warm and coping with the winter! I did notice on my way home from work yesterday though that it was just starting to stay a bit lighter for a little longer! Yippee! It feels like one of those never-ending busy weeks this week - extra hours at work this month (I'll be glad when all these tax returns are done lol!) and it happens to be my husband's 'big birthday' next week! So we're having a little 'gathering' this weekend just for friends and family. He didn't want a big party - and decided that the way he'd really like to celebrate this landmark birthday would be to have a little break away with all his 'babies'! So we're going away soon for a long weekend - all four offspring together with their partners (or in Jack's case, one of his best friends) to a lovely hotel in the Lake District! And I can't wait! When everyone lives away and has jobs it's so difficult to spend time all together, so it'll be a real treat for all of us. I'll take some pics to share with you!

Anyway, less waffle! Today's card is an inspiration one for the new releases from Whimsy

This gorgeous digi stamp is from Dana's Digis you can find at Whimsy HERE called 'French Tulips'. I think it makes a great image for a variety of uses - I decided to use it here to make a 'thank you' card.
I've coloured the image with promarkers and used Spellbinders 'floral oval' to mat and layer.

The backing papers are from NitWit pads at LOTV. The sentiment stamp is from Whimsy. The sheer ribbon is from Joanna Sheen and the lace and pearls from stash.
Hope you like it!
Keep warm and I'll be back soon,

Some exciting news!

Good evening all - and a very big warm welcome to my new followers and thank you for taking the time to join me on my crafting escapades!  And it's definitely a 'warm' welcome, particularly to all in the UK - hope that you're not snowed in (unless it's with a warm fire and with lots of crafting goodies and chocolate on hand lol!).  And thank you for all your good wishes regarding my Grumpy Princess Poppy! Yes, the grumpy cat is back in residence after two nights on a drip at the vets (not her idea of a pleasant sleepover!). Apparently she has kidney disease (not sure whether that contributes to the grumpy expression lol!) but now has to have medication every day and a special diet. Thankfully she quite likes the tablets (some clever person has developed a palatable tablet) as I didn't fancy having to perform wrestling moves every morning and up to now she quite likes the food too - so keep your fingers crossed! We'll be back at the vets in a week for a check up, then it'll be regular blood tests, etc. Don't you just love kids and pets (££££££!).

But aside from all that, I just wanted to share some exciting crafty news with you. I was very flattered and thrilled to be asked to join the design team for Polkadoodles - which needless to say I was delighted to accept!  Nikky produces some fabulous crafting artwork and I'm so excited about working with some of her designs.  Just thought I'd share a quick card with you today made with some fab Polkadoodles artwork

I've coloured the tree with promarkers.
Hope you like it and I hope that you'll pop over to the Polkadoodles shop and have a browse through some of the gorgeous crafting goodies on offer!

SkaterBoy!

Hi I'm back again with a new challenge over at Totally Papercrafts!  This week our lovely Carol has challenged us to use 'embossing of any kind' on our creations.  Our sponsors this week are KennyK and DoodleDragon

and for my creation I've used a fantastic KennyK digi called 'Cool Boarder'

I've coloured the image with promarkers

The backing papers are from First Edition and printed from FunkyHand cd 'wishes and kisses'. The sentiment tag is from LOTV. The embossing is from a CraftsToo 'stars' folder. I've just added a couple of large paperclips and some twine.
Hope you like it!  I confess that I've very rarely used KennyK images - but must admit I really enjoyed making this one!  Just shows it's good to try something new! So do pop over to Totally Papercrafts and have a look at the fantastic work from the DT - and then join in!

Anything but a card!

Good morning all and time for a new challenge over at CraftyCatz - and this week our lovely Sassy has challenged us to make 'Anything but a card!'. The sponsor for this week is
and the winner gets 3 packs of diecuts.

Now I confess that I struggled a bit with this one!  I think I've had a busy stressful week this week so it feels as though the mojo was struggling a bit!  But in the end I came up with these bookmarks

I made the first one in blue - and thought it looked quite cute, so made another one in pink lol! The papers are from LOTV Nitwit pad. The flower stamp on the blue one is from Chocolate Baroque and the felt flowers on the pink one were cut using a Sizzix die.  Tonic border punches were used for the edging.
Hope you like them - and I hope you'll pop over to CraftyCatz and see the fantastic creations that the DT have come up with - plenty of inspiration there!

New challenge over at Whimsy Inspirations!

Good evening all and apologies for the lateness of this post! It's definitely been 'one of those days' - again!

But it's time for a new challenge over at Whimsy Inspirations - and it's a nice easy one for everyone - 'Fancy Edges'!  So do pop over and have a look at some of the fantastic creations that the Whimsy DT have produced.

I decided to use one of the January release sentiments from Raindrop Echo Designs at Whimsy Stamps (you can find it HERE) and made a hanger rather than a card

I've used coredinations card, MS round the page punch, roses and butterfly from WOC, pin & pearly heart from stash and the gingham ribbon from Joanna Sheen.
I do like these sentiments - they're suitable for all sorts!
So do pop over to Whimsy Inspirations and join us this month with your fancy edged creations!

And thank you for all your lovely comments that you leave - they are appreciated so much! A quick update on grumpy Poppy is that she had blood tests at the vets this morning and they've diagnosed kidney disease - which unfortunately I suspected :(
So she's gone back to the vets again for a 'sleepover' tonight to go on a drip to get fluids and some medication into her and will be in for 24 hours or so - and then we'll see how she is. Hopefully we'll then be able to adjust her diet, etc., and make her as comfy as possible and hopefully limit or delay any further damage. So if I know my cat, she'll be even more grumpy at the moment! And Tilly the Dog is a bit confused and keeps looking round for her! Bless! I'll let you know how things go but we're staying positive!

Pretty peachy PomPom!

Good evening all and I hope that your week has started well. Just a quick posting from me this evening - feeling a bit stressed at the moment! I've got a poorly grumpy cat at the moment. She's been a bit unwell for a few days and so a trip to the vet's took place this tea-time. She really didn't enjoy that! But she had a couple of tests and then back tomorrow morning for more blood tests. (So I'll get the cheque book ready as well lol!).  And I'm pretty busy at work, doing extra hours at the moment. I work part-time at an accountants but do extra hours at busy periods - and this month is our busiest month with all those tax returns having to be in by the end of January! So with the combination of extra hours, a poorly cat and a husband with a cold I'm feeling a bit fraught! Sigh. So time to pull the big girl panties on and deal with it all!
Anyway, just thought I'd share a card I made with a cute little stamp from LOTV 'PomPom' coloured with promarkers and pencils (and some added glitter!)

I decided to go for peachy colours this time, and just love that gorgeous backing paper from First Edition. I added an embossed panel and some flowers.

Ingredients-
Stamp - LOTV 'PomPom'
Sentiment - LOTV
Papers - First Edition, Coredinations
Embossing folder - Cuttlebug 'Divine swirls'
Flowers - Wild Orchid
Dies - Sizzix circles and Spellbinders Persian Motifs (corners)

Hope you like the little cutie!

Lazy Days - but freezing ones!

Good morning all from a bright but freezing cold corner of the UK! Everything outside had a thick coating of frost on it this morning - but no snow - yet! - although we have been threatened with some later. I think my son was getting a bit excited at the prospect - although not for the simple pleasures of snowball fights and building snowmen. More because it raised the possibility that school might be closed. Sigh.

And so much for my efforts for our family diets to be more balanced and health conscious after the indulgences of the festive period. Although all the offspring are maddeningly lithe & slim, both OH and me could do with shedding a significant number of pounds in weight but it's something of a constant challenge! My son had announced that he's doing a 'Masterchef' style challenge in his food technology lessons at school and had to come up with a dish to make that would then be 'tasted & judged'!  So instead of picking something along the balanced and healthy lines of, say, stir fried oriental veg or a hearty veg & bean bake or similar, what did my little ray of sunshine decide he wanted to make?  A banoffee pie!  And not a low-cal version - the full works with biscuit & oat base, caramel & whipped cream. So we set to work on making this yesterday so he could practice and check timings, etc., and then he announced that he didn't want any because he didn't like it! He just liked the banana! So this plate of high cholestrol scrumminess is now sitting in my fridge - and it would be a shame not to eat it wouldn't it.....? And he's got to make another one this week!  I'm just hoping all the boys at school eat it all so that he comes back with the empty plate!

Anyway, less of the Sunday morning waffle! Just a quick card to share with you today - and along the teenage boy theme!

I used a MoManning digi - 'Paul Typing' - and coloured him with promarkers.

The backing papers are from First Edition and EK Success 'life words'.
I then added a Kraft tag to go in a little pocket, with sentiment stamps from LOTV and a wooden button.
So quite a simple card, but I do like that image - and I don't think many teenage boys would appreciate too much fussiness and flowers on a card would they? lol.
So I do hope that you have a good day - and stay warm.

Buttons & Bows!

Good morning! It's Friday! That means at least two good things - it's nearly the weekend and it's also time for a new challenge at CraftyCatz lol!  And can I just add a big welcome to my new followers!  We're getting wrapped up warm because we're now getting truly seasonal winter weather - i.e. it's gone really cold!  I just wish I could get rid of this horrible cough! I don't usually get coughs (sniffly colds yes, but not coughs lol!) - but once they get settled in it seems to take ages to shift them! So I'm having lots of hot lemon & honey, and just trying not to pass it on to everyone else (although I've a suspicion that I caught this off my darling husband - so nice of him to share things....). But I'm hoping that if we have some frosty weather it will help to kill off all the nasty cold bugs that seem to be lingering around - keep your fingers crossed!

Anyway, as I said before the waffling started, it's time for a new challenge over at CraftyCatz and it's yours truly - ME! - who is hosting this week's challenge.  I've picked a nice easy one for everyone - Buttons & Bows!  We're also looking for a Guest DT member for February - so if you fancy joining us for a month just add 'GDT' alongside your name on your entry. They really are a great bunch of people to work with! So this is my DT sample

I've used a cute WeeStamps from SylviaZett 'Dandelion Girl'

I've coloured her with promarkers.  The papers are First Edition, and the die cuts are DooHickey 'lovely fence'and Memory Box tree.  And I decided to try a stepper card for a change!

and of course lots of buttons and a bow!
So do hope that you'll pop over to CraftyCatz and have a look at the great DT inspiration - and then get your stash of buttons & ribbons out and join in!  There's a fantastic crafty goody bag from Mulberry Crafts as a prize for the winner!
Have a great weekend

Too much pink? Too many hearts?

Good morning all and hope that your week is going well? Wednesday again already! My daughter starts back at uni next week, but my youngest started back at school yesterday - and I don't think the early start was too popular! Or the homework! But I'm sure they like being back in routine really, and the chance to catch up with all their friends.
It's a cold but bright morning here today - yippee! Yesterday was grey rainy gloom all day - and I'm sure I must have some form of this Seasonal Affective Disorder because it makes me feel so low! So I'm particularly grateful for some brightness today - especially as I have a stinky horrible cough (which is driving me mad!) - so I'll get wrapped up and Tilly the Dog & I can go for a walk later on!

I wanted to share a card today that I made with another of the new January releases from Whimsy digital stamps

This digi stamp is from MarikaCollins called 'Alex'.  I think because of the heart shaped balloons I was thinking about Valentine's Day cards, but have a feeling that I got a bit carried away with the pink and hearts!

I've coloured her with promarkers (with a little pencil for details) and then used some Glossy Accents and a light sprinkle of glitter on the balloons!  The backing papers are freebies that were in my stash and some LOTV Nitwit paper, matted with coredinations card. The sentiment stamp is a Whimsy one (I love their Ticket sentiments - I've used them SO much lol!), the sheer ribbon is from Joanna Sheen and the pin & pearl from stash.
Hope you like it!  Do pop over to Whimsy and have a look at the fantastic range of digi stamps that their talented artists produce - there's definitely something for everyone!

What do you mean? Attitude?

Hi everyone and hope that your week has started well? Firstly, can I just say a very warm welcome to my new followers - thank you for taking the time to follow my crafting exploits! And a very big thank you to all of you who leave such kind and supportive comments on my creations, especially about my colouring trials!  I've only had my promarkers less than a year, but enjoy using them and trying new things. I keep trying to persuade my OH to 'invest' in a set of copics for me too - but haven't had any luck yet! But I love browsing round the blogs and seeing people's expertise with colouring and it inspires me to keep trying!

It's typical grey January gloom here, although the forecast says it will get colder but a lot brighter by the middle of the week. I have to say I'd rather have the cold and sunshine than this dark, grey cloud we've had!  I had my last 'quiet' morning before my son goes back to school tomorrow - then I feel like I hit the deck running at 6.45am every day! Sigh. And thanks for all your reassurances that most teenage boys are alike! He's a gorgeous boy and still very affectionate (most of the time lol!) - but they still seem like an alien species to me! Mind you, adult males are a pretty alien species generally I find!

Thought I'd share a card with you today using one of my new toys - a MS round-the-page punch! Yes, I know I'm a bit behind the times and it seems as though everyone else has and uses these, but this is my first one! But as I don't own a Grand Calibur (although sometimes it feels as though everyone else also has one of those lol!), and sometimes I'd like to add a different shape to my cards, I thought I'd get one and try it - and I was quite pleased with the effect!

I'll keep practicing with it!
I've used a gorgeous MoManning digi

 Ingredients for this card:
Stamp - MoManning digi 'Talk to the bear'
Colours - promarkers
Papers - First Edition & coredinations
Die cuts - Marianne swirl & flowers, Memory Box buckle
MS round the page punch
Ribbon - Joanna Sheen
Sentiment - printed on pc!
buttons & bling from stash

Hope you like it! (Attitude and all!)

A little bit of cross stitch!

Good evening all and I hope that you've been having a good weekend? I have to confess that we haven't really done very much - packed christmas trees back in the loft, spent time cleaning bird feeders out in the garden (for which the birds - I'm assuming - were grateful, but as they empty them all so quickly I'm not sure they notice lol!) - and all the usual humdrum weekend jobs! But I did have a little visit to my local craft shop yesterday to inspire the mojo for the new year!
My youngest is back at school on Tuesday and oh boy is it going to be a shock to his system.  He's been the typical 14 year old boy over the holidays, finally emerging from his pit around lunchtime (despite me hoovering, playing the radio, etc.!), grazing on all manner of foods for the day (in addition to meals) and then playing on his computer & xbox all evening! So sociable! At least I'm hoping that's typical teenage boy behaviour and it's not just my son!  I can't believe how different boys are to girls - my daughter will happily sit with me with a cup of tea and chat, or go shopping. But Jack would be traumatised if I made him go to the supermarket with me! Hey ho.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share a little bit of cross stitch with you today. I made these little items just as a small gift for someone I work with

I used a variety of patterns from books to design the coaster pattern, and then drafted out the lettering on graph paper! Not very technical!  And then as I had some blank key rings, decided to make a matching keyring. She's a big tea drinker - and I think they were both much appreciated!
So hope you like them too!
